Jewelry care guide

Care tips and advice for your jewelry

What to avoid

  • Sport, shower & sleep: take off your jewelry before going to bed, before doing sport and before taking a shower/bath to avoid rubbing against fabrics, exposure to sweat and prolonged water exposure.
  • Harmful chemicals: Keep away from hairspray, perfume, lotions, bleach, ammonia, and other acidic substances. Always apply your skin lotion, make-up, cosmetics, perfume, cologne, and hairspray before you put on any jewelry.
  • Harsh cleaning tools: Never use abrasive materials

Cleaning and maintenance PEARLS

  • Clean only when necessary: For routine cleaning, a soft cloth is sufficient.
  • Use mild, soapy water for a
    deeper clean:
If more thorough cleaning is needed, use a solution of warm water and a tiny amount of mild dish soap. Avoid soaking the pearls for long periods, especially if they are on a silk string, as it can weaken the silk.
  • Scrub gently: Use a soft toothbrush to gently clean around the drill holes or on the clasp. Never use toothbrushes on the pearls themselves.
  • Rinse and dry thoroughly: Rinse the pearls with clean water and then pat them dry with a soft, clean cloth or paper towel. For necklaces, lay them flat to dry completely before wearing.
  • Submerging in water: Avoid prolonged soaking, which can damage the silk string or setting.
  • Saltwater: While pearls grow in
water, saltwater can actually be dehydrating and damage them over time.
  • Re-string periodically: If you wear pearl necklaces or bracelets frequently, have them re-strung about once a year to prevent breakage.
  • Ultrasonic or steam cleaners: These can irreparably damage the nacre, the pearl's outer layer.

Cleaning and maintenance GEMSTONES

  • For most gemstones:
  • Mix a few drops of mild dish
    soap with lukewarm water.
  • Soak the piece for 10-15 minutes.
  • Use a soft-bristled toothbrush
to gently scrub the stones and settings.
  • Rinse thoroughly with clean
water. For pieces with loose stones, it's safer to rinse in a bowl than
    under a running faucet.
  • Dry the gemstone with a soft,
lint-free cloth by gently patting it, not rubbing.
What are made-to-order and pre-orders?

Our products are manufactured both locally and globally. We carefully select our manufacturing partners to ensure our products are high quality and priced at a fair value. Some products handcrafted specifically for you after you place your order. This is always mentioned before you order.

How long does it take to create a made-to-order piece?

Production time varies depending on the complexity of the piece and current order volume.
Typically, made-to-order jewelry takes 2-3 weeks to create. You'll receive an
estimated delivery timeframe when you place your order, and we'll keep you
updated throughout the process.

Can I customize my made-to-order piece?

Yes! Since each piece is made specifically for you, we can often accommodate customization
requests such as metal choice, gemstone selection, or sizing adjustments.
Please contact us before placing your order to discuss your customization
ideas.

Can I cancel or modify my made-to-order purchase?

Because production begins shortly after your order is placed, cancellations or
modifications may not be possible once work has started. Please contact us
immediately if you need to make changes. We'll do our best to accommodate your request depending on the production stage.

Are made-to-order items returnable or exchangeable?

Due to the custom nature of made-to-order pieces, returns and exchanges are handled on a case-by-case basis. If there's a defect or error on our part, we'll gladly repair, replace, or refund your purchase. Please review our full return policy or contact us with any concerns.

How will I know when my piece is being made?

You'll receive order confirmation when you place your order, and we'll send you
updates as your piece moves through production. Once your jewelry is complete and ready to ship, you'll receive a shipping notification with tracking information.

What's the difference between made-to-order and ready-to-ship items?

Ready-to-ship items are already crafted and in stock, so they can be sent out within 2-5 business days. Made-to-order pieces are created after your order, which takes longer but ensures you receive a freshly handcrafted piece made specifically for you.

Do you use natural gemstones in your made-to-order pieces?

Yes, we use natural gemstones in our jewelry. Each stone is unique with its own natural characteristics, which means your piece will be truly one-of-a-kind. Slight variations in color and pattern are normal and part of the beauty of natural gemstones.

Pre-order questions

What does pre-order mean?

When an item/size appears as pre-order, the item is on its way back in stock – and is therefore temporarily sold out at our main warehouse. You can therefore
pre-order the item to ensure that you are among the first to have it shipped
once it is back in stock.

What is the delivery time for a pre-order?

The delivery time is typically around 7–14 business days.

Are pre-order items returnable or exchangeable?

Yes according to our full return policy.

How willI know when my piece is coming?

You'll receive order confirmation when you place your order, and once your jewelry is ready to ship, you'll receive a shipping notification with tracking
information.

Understanding the 4Cs of diamonds

Understanding the 4 C's of Diamonds

When selecting a diamond, understanding the 4 C's—Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat—is essential to making an informed choice. These four characteristics determine a diamond's quality, beauty, and value.

1. Cut

The cut of a diamond refers to how well the diamond has been shaped and faceted. It's the most important factor in determining a diamond's brilliance and sparkle.

What to know:

  • Excellent/Ideal Cut: Maximum brilliance and fire, reflects nearly all light that enters
  • Very Good Cut: Reflects most light, excellent value
  • Good Cut: Reflects a majority of light,
good balance of quality and value
  • Fair/Poor Cut: Less brilliance, light escapes from the sides and bottom

A well-cut diamond will appear more brilliant and valuable than a poorly cut diamond of the same carat weight.

2. Color

Diamond color grading measures the absence of color in a diamond. The less color, the higher the grade and value.

Color scale:

  • D-F (Colorless): Highest quality, no visible color even to a trained eye
  • G-J (Near Colorless): Slight color detectable by experts, excellent value
  • K-M (Faint Color): Noticeable color tint, more affordable
  • N-Z (Light Color): Visible yellow or brown tint

For most jewelry, diamonds in the G-J range offer beautiful appearance at better value than colorless grades.

3.Clarity

Clarity measures the presence of internal inclusions and external blemishes. Most inclusions are microscopic and don't affect the diamond's beauty to the naked
eye.

Clarity grades:

  • FL (Flawless): No inclusions or blemishes visible under 10x magnification
  • IF (Internally Flawless): No inclusions, only minor surface blemishes
  • VVS1-VVS2 (Very Very Slightly
    Included):

Minute inclusions difficult to see under 10x magnification
  • VS1-VS2 (Very Slightly Included):
Minor inclusions visible under 10x magnification
  • SI1-SI2 (Slightly Included): Noticeable inclusions under
10x magnification, may be visible to naked eye
  • I1-I3 (Included): Obvious inclusions that may affect transparency and brilliance

VS1-VS2 diamonds offer excellent value, as inclusions are typically not visible without magnification.

4. Carat

Carat refers to the diamond's weight. One carat equals 200 milligrams.

What to know:

  • Larger carat weights are rarer
    and more valuable
  • Two diamonds of equal carat
weight can have different values based on cut, color, and clarity
  • A well-cut smaller diamond can
appear larger and more brilliant than a poorly cut larger diamond
  • Price increases exponentially
    with carat weight, not linearly

Popular carat weights:

0.30ct, 0.50ct, 0.75ct, 1.00ct.

Finding the Right Balance

The best diamond for you depends on your priorities and budget.

Consider:

  • If brilliance matters most,
    prioritize cut
  • If size is important, you might
choose a larger carat with slightly lower color or clarity
  • For the best value, look for
diamonds just below popular carat weights (e.g., 0.90ct instead of 1.00ct)
  • Consider which characteristics
are visible to the naked eye versus under magnification

Certificate

For larger diamonds, 0.3ct and above, consider having a diamond grading report from a reputable laboratory such as GIA (Gemological Institute of America) . This certificate provide an independent assessment of the diamond's 4 C's.

Pearl types & origins

Pearls are treasured for their natural beauty and lustrous elegance. At Eviselle, we work with several types of pearls, each with unique characteristics:

Freshwater Pearls

Cultivated in freshwater lakes and rivers, primarily in China. These pearls offer excellent value and come in a variety of shapes and colors, from classic white to soft pink and lavender tones. Their organic, baroque shapes make each piece truly one-of-a-kind.

Akoya Pearls

The classic cultured pearl, primarily from Japan and China. Known for their perfectly round shape, brilliant luster, and neutral white to cream colors with subtle overtones. Akoya pearls are the traditional choice for elegant pearl jewelry.

South Sea Pearls

Cultivated in Australia, Indonesia, and the Philippines, these are among the largest and most valuable pearls. Their satiny luster and colors ranging from white to deep golden make them exceptionally luxurious.

Tahitian Pearls

Grown in French Polynesia, these naturally dark pearls display stunning colors from silver-grey to deep black with peacock, green, or purple overtones. Their exotic beauty makes them highly sought after.

Each pearl in our collection is carefully selected for quality, luster, and character to create jewelry that will be treasured for generations.

Metal guide

Understanding Jewelry Metals

At Eviselle, we work with premium metals to create jewelry that's both beautiful and durable. Here's what you need to know about the metals we use.

Gold Filled

Gold filled jewelry is a high-quality alternative to solid gold. It consists of a thick layer of gold mechanically bonded to a base metal core (usually brass or
jeweler's brass). Unlike gold plating, gold filled pieces contain significantly
more gold—typically 5% or 1/20th of the total weight.

Key benefits of gold filled:

  • Much more durable than gold plating
  • Won't flake, chip, or wear off with proper care
  • Safe for most people with metal sensitivities
  • Maintains its appearance for years with minimal tarnishing
  • Affordable luxury that looks and wears like solid gold

Understanding Microns in Gold Plating

When we talk about gold plating, microns refer to the thickness of the gold layer applied to the base metal. One micron equals one-thousandth of a millimeter.

Micron thickness guide:

  • 0.5-1 micron: Flash plating—very thin, suitable for fashion jewelry with light wear
  • 1-2 microns: Standard plating—good for occasional wear pieces
  • 2.5-3 microns: Heavy plating—durable for everyday wear
  • 5+ microns: Premium plating—exceptional durability and longevity

At Eviselle, we use 5 micron plating techniques to ensure your jewelry maintains its beauty over time.

Sterling Silver

Sterling silver is a precious metal alloy containing 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals (usually copper). The addition of other metals makes the silver more durable while maintaining its beautiful luster.

Key characteristics of sterling silver:

  • Marked with "925" or "Sterling" to indicate authenticity
  • Naturally bright, white metallic shine
  • Hypoallergenic and suitable for
    sensitive skin
  • Develops a natural patina over time, which many find appealing
  • Can be easily polished to restore original shine
  • Excellent value for high-quality jewelry

Caring for sterling silver:

  • Store in airtight bags or anti-tarnish pouches when not wearing
  • Clean with a silver polishing cloth or mild silver cleaner
  • Avoid exposure to chlorine, saltwater, and sulfur compounds
  • Put on jewelry last (after perfume, lotion, and hairspray)

Solid Gold

Solid gold jewelry is made entirely of gold alloy throughout and comes in either yellow gold or white gold. The karat number indicates purity:

  • 24K: Pure gold (99.9% gold)—soft and rarely used in jewelry
  • 18K: 75% gold—excellent balance of
    purity, durability, and color
  • 14K: 58.3% gold—very durable, ideal for everyday wear
  • 10K: 41.7% gold—most durable,
    budget-friendly option

At Eviselle we mainly use 14K gold. The metal used will always be noted in the description of the piece.

White Gold

White gold is an alloy of pure gold mixed with white metals such as palladium, silver, or nickel, creating a silvery-white appearance. It offers the prestige of gold
with a modern, cool-toned aesthetic.

Key characteristics of white gold:

  • Available in the same karat weights as yellow gold (10K, 14K, 18K)
  • Typically plated with rhodium for extra brightness and durability
  • Rhodium plating may wear over time and require re-plating every few years
  • More durable than yellow gold due to alloy metals
  • Complements diamonds and white
    gemstones beautifully
  • Modern, versatile look that pairs well with any style

White gold vs. platinum:
While they look similar, platinum is denser, more durable, and naturally white (no plating needed), but also more expensive than white gold.

 Caring for Your Metals

To keep your jewelry looking its best:

  • Remove jewelry before swimming,
    showering, or exercising
  • Avoid contact with perfumes, lotions, and harsh chemicals
  • Store pieces separately in a dry place
  • Clean gently with a soft cloth
  • For gold filled and solid gold, occasional cleaning with mild soap and water is safe

 If you have
questions about which metal is right for you, please don't hesitate to contact
us
